Roots Aurora festival lets city celebrate diversity

Family Focus Roots Aurora 2018

Roots Aurora took place on Friday, September 7th at Water Street Mall in downtown Aurora. The cultural fest is a partnership between Family Focus and many Aurora cultural and government organizations. This year’s attendees included the Indian American Outreach Advisory and Aurora Hispanic Heritage Advisory council, City of Aurora, and the African American Heritage Advisory Board.

“This is all about celebrating the diversity and various ethnic groups here in Aurora,” said Mariana Osoria, Vice President of Centers of Family Focus. Family Focus Aurora has organized the event for the last 5 years.

Roots Aurora attendees enjoyed music, food, games, art, and live performances of dancing and singing centered around the different cultures represented at the festival. Two individuals were recognized as ambassadors of their culture for helping build the community of Aurora were also recognized with the Cultural Champion award.
