Bernice Weissbourd Giving Society

The Family Focus Legacy Society – In Honor of Bernice Weissbourd is a community of supporters, friends and volunteers–both past and current–who demonstrate extraordinary commitment to Family Focus. This Giving Society, made up of four distinct categories (referred to below as circles), has been formed to thank and recognize donors who exhibit leadership level support. Donors included in the Giving Society will be celebrated through one or more of the following opportunities throughout the fiscal year: special communications, expressions of appreciation, and exclusive stewardship events.

Bernice Weissbourd (1923 – 2022) was a pioneering researcher and advocate. Leading the family support movement, she was among the first to recognize that support and education for new parents is vital in realizing a child’s potential. In 1976 she confounded Family Focus alongside Delores Holmes and Irving Harris.

Delores Holmes Dream Builders Circle

Delores Holmes Dream Builders Circle recognizes donors that give at a leadership level of $1,000+ cumulatively within the most recent fiscal year. Friends that give at this level to Family Focus provide crucial resources for our operations.

Delores Holmes (1937 – 2024) was a well-known and respected champion for community. She served as the first center director for Family Focus Evanston from 1976 – 2003, and served on the Evanston City Council from 2005 – 2017.

Irving Harris Legacy Circle

The Irving Harris Legacy Circle honors and recognizes donors who have included Family Focus in their estate plans. Whether through a charitable bequest, gift annuity, life insurance policy or other form of planned gift, members have created a legacy of support for children and families.

Irving Harris (1910 – 2004) was a pioneering businessman and philanthropist. His investments in early childhood education helped create Family Focus, Start Early, and the Erikson Institute.
