We understand the prevailing challenges that migrant communities face in Chicago, and Family Focus teams have been focused on extending a hand of friendship and support to recent arrivals. Our centers, including our newest Illinois Welcoming Center in Evanston, have been bustling hubs of hope and help, reaching out to our friends from Skokie, Niles, and NE Chicago. It’s been a heartwarming sight to see our welcome packets in the hands of so many families, in addition to the comprehensive support services they need to start anew. The power of partnership has been evident, with organizations like DHS, DFSS, and Catholic Charities joining us in our mission to serve as a safety net of services. We are happy to report that ongoing discussions with Chicago’s Aldermen have not only been enlightening but have also solidified our role in developing effective strategies for welcoming our newly arrived families into communities throughout the Chicagoland area.
Want to know how you can help?
The Evanston Welcoming Center needs gently used items such as blankets, jackets, and winter gear. We also have some program participants who have obtained apartments and need used household items (such as cooking utensils, microwaves, toasters, pots and & pans, dish towels, et cert). To donate, please email Nancy Mendoza at our Evanston center, firstname.lastname@example.org or call 847-475-7570 x39.
Our other Illinois Welcoming Centers are also accepting donations, and are listed below:
