Family Focus Joins United Way Education Initiative

Family Focus is pleased to announce our partnership with United Way of Metropolitan Chicago, supporting their new $9.3 million Education Initiative. The goal: help 50,000 underperforming students graduate from high school over the next 10 years.

Because the achievement gap begins before school starts- 46% of all children enter school without the skills necessary for success - the United Way initiative includes an early childhood component.

As a recognized leader in early education, Family Focus will receive funding to expand early childhood programming for Latino immigrant families with young children in Cicero.

At our Nuestra Familia center in Cicero, Family Focus helps Latino immigrant families to prepare their children ages 0-5 for future success. Through parent groups, workshops, home visits and parent-child activities, parents learn about the stages of child development and how they can best support their young children and ready them for success in school.

United Way's Education Initiative includes two educational strategies - early childhood education (children ages 0-5), and middle school transition into high school (students in 6th,7th, and 8th grade) - and is part of LIVE UNITED 2020, United Way's ten-year commitment to transforming communities of greatest need.
