Evanston Teens Participate in Girl Scouts "Reality Check" Event

On Saturday, Oct. 22, Family Focus staff JoAnn Avery and Lachisa Barton tookour participants ages 13-17 to the Chicago Gathering Place to participate in the Girl Scouts' new campaign, Reality Check - A Look at Real Girls through their Eyes and Voices.

At the event, the girls were encouraged to write and digitally record their own stories. Also, they met Kasia, a plus-sized model from last season's America's Next Top Model, who talked to them about body image and the difference between reality TV and real life. Representatives from Mash, a Chicago Tribune magaine by and for teens, also were on hand to talk to the girls.
