- And many more family support programs
In an effort to help families undergoing financial hardships receive items their new baby requires for healthy development, Family Focus offers an incentive program called Baby Bucks.
Families participating in Family Focus’ services earn Baby Bucks for reaching goals, attending group meetings or programs, or graduating programs. The bucks can then be used to purchase essential baby items The program provides incentive for families to attend services that will positively impact the health of their baby and gives parents a sense of independence by allowing them to choose what items their child needs.
For more information about the Baby Bucks program or how you can support it, please contact Kelsey Miklos at 312-777-1918.
Community Schools and Youth Initiatives provide services to children and families at their schools and includes Before and Afterschool Academic Enrichment and Tutoring, Parent & Family Engagement opportunities, and supportive services for English Language Learners.
Family Focus Nuestra Familia operates these learning centers for elementary school children and their families at 3 high need Chicago Public Schools on the Northwest Side of Chicago (Chicago Academy, Volta, & Nixon) and 2 Cicero Elementary schools (Burnham & Roosevelt), all serving populations with a large percentage of immigrant families.
Babies begin to learn about the world around them from a very early age. Children’s early experiences, including the bonds they form with their parents and their first learning experiences deeply affect their future physical, cognitive, emotional and social development. Family Focus utilizes programs such as home visiting to stimulate a child’s early development and learning.
Children develop best when their homes and families remain together, including families who immigrate to the Chicago area. In an effort to keep families together, specially accredited staff work with individuals and families eligible to become U.S. citizens. Staff also provide support for those applying for visas for victims of crimes, waivers for family members to become residents of the U.S. and those seeking renewals of Resident Cards, DACA, employment authorizations, and more. All efforts are made to keep parents connected to their children and engaged in their community.
Families work with Family Advocacy Workers (FAWs) through parenting coaching, home visiting, and court advocacy. FAWs create a strength and needs-based service plan for the family including parent education, support groups, crisis counseling, supervised child development activities and more.
