NEWS: BOOKS AND CIRCUSES
Clowns! Food! Books! "Say Hello to the Circus" was the theme of Family Focus Nuestra Familia's June 24 Hug-a-Book early childhood literacy program culminating event. Families coming through the door were greeted by staff in funny clothes and clown makeup and were invited to have their own faces painted.

After s taff member Margarita Morales's comic interpretation of the theme book, families were invited to write and draw in their own circus books, followed by time for independent family reading time.

Those families who had completed the program were presented with gifts of books to start or add to their home libraries. We had a great time - click here to see photos.

OUR PROGRAMS

Serving the Hermosa, West Town and Humboldt Park Neighborhoods –
Nuestra Familia is located in the Hermosa neighborhood, at 4145 W. Armitage in Chicago. The center still provides after-school programs to many of our families’ children, who are bused to West Town for school. Our facility is a large and welcoming center with bright, roomy classrooms for the growing number of immigrant children and families it serves.

Nuestra Familia’s bilingual, multicultural staff conduct home visits to new mothers, provide programs for children from birth to age 5, provide school-based activities before and after school for children 6 through 14, advocate on behalf of immigrant families, and lead health and fitness classes for parents.
